Meet the Amplify Fellows: Kenyatta Rashon
In 2020 we partnered with Grove Studios to launch the Amplify Fellowship, a project that supports and amplifies the local African-American music community here in Washtenaw County. Out of many applicants, 3 fellows were selected to receive the resources to produce and record a music project in exchange for volunteer service to local nonprofits and supportive agencies. Over the next few months, we’ll be introducing you to our first 3 Amplify Fellows, starting with Kenyatta Rashon.
Meet Kenyatta Rashon
An Ypsilanti-born artist with an edgy and soulful style, Kenyatta is ready to make her lifelong dream of making it big in the entertainment industry a reality. Hip hop and R&B are her first loves and she has shared her musical gift all over, from the boardwalks of Venice Beach to the subways of Harlem to singing on stage at Kanye West's Sunday Service show in Detroit. She draws inspiration from artists like Beyoncé, Erykah Badu, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, and Amy Winehouse—among many others.
The Amplify Kickback Series with Kenyatta
On Saturday, March 20th at 7PM EDT, Kenyatta will be performing in a virtual fundraising show as part of the Amplify Kickback Series, a series of concerts and panel discussions aimed at supporting community organizations in Washtenaw County, MI.
Tickets start at $15 and proceeds will be distributed between Kenyatta, Do You See What I See? LLC, a local organization that supports female mentorship and empowerment, and the Amplify Project.
