For this feature, we spoke with Ed Buday from Buday's Home Electronics Simplified in Kalamazoo, MI.
Q: Tell us a little bit about Buday’s Home Electronics Simplified: How long have you been in business? What type of projects do you typically take on?
A: It was clear while observing homeowners struggle to operate their home technology that there had to be a better way—a way that would provide optimal enjoyment of their investment without so much confusion and hassle. Homeowners can have the best equipment on the planet, but if it’s too complicated to use, what’s the point? It was with this guiding principle that Buday’s Home Electronics Simplified was conceived. We opened our doors for business in 2003, and since that time we haven’t swayed from our mission of delivering simple, efficient solutions that are so easy to use, they get used each and every day, allowing families to realize the full potential of technology.
Simple, intuitive control can only happen when systems are seamlessly integrated, so this too is a primary focus of our business. We go the extra step to ensure that all systems operate as one cohesive unit—placing the control of that unified system within a single customized app, keypad, or touchscreen.
As technology integration quickly became our specialty, with luxury homes driving nearly all of our business, we expanded our services to also include home technology system designs. Working closely with custom homebuilders, architects, and interior designers, we tailor systems to suit each client’s unique lifestyle plus complement the distinct architectural and interior style of their home. While we’ve devised some clever concealment solutions over the years, every project is unique, so we rarely deliver the same system twice.

Q: How long have you been a Leon Dealer for?
A: We have been a Leon dealer since 2004, and as a fellow Michigan-based business, we’ve practically grown up together. We’ve witnessed the evolution of Leon products just as our own business progressed from a small, two-man operation to a full-service design and integration firm.
Q: What do you and/or your clients like most about our products?
A: Naturally, the attractive styling of your speakers is a hit with our clients. The Leon team raises the bar even more by working with us to develop unique, one-of-a-kind customized audio solutions that not only look great but perform phenomenally.
Because Leon willingly collaborates with us no matter how unusual the request, we’ve been able to integrate speakers into challenging areas like an outdoor water feature. Your custom-painting service is another perk that enhances our designs. We send a paint color, your production team matches it, and in a matter of a few weeks, we have speakers that blend in perfectly into the home environment. This, plus the performance, quality, and customer service makes Leon a valuable asset to our business.
Q: What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on with us?
Because we focus our designs and integration on the entire home, our most memorable Leon projects are those in which we’ve had the opportunity to install a variety of Leon products—in-wall, in-ceiling, freestanding, and exterior, both inside and outside—giving our clients a fully immersive audio experience.
The Terra LuminSound Series speakers have been instrumental in our approach to and success with outdoor audio. Clients love the way these speakers look in the backyard, how they sound, and the integration of LED lighting is a bonus. Another memorable project involved hiding a display in a formal living room behind Leon’s Media Décor moving artwork.

Q: With endless off-the-shelf products on the market, how do you convince your clients of the value of custom audio?
A: We convince clients of the value of custom audio through our reputation and experience. We have long-standing clients who have trusted us for years to deliver outstanding solutions and service, so they know our recommendations are always in their best interest. Leon’s U.S.-made products sound and look better than off-the-shelf audio systems, which allow us to provide our clients with integrated solutions that are easy and fun to use and enjoyable to experience.
